The humongous OLTC, “the third biggest solid-state coil in the world ever” by his own count. First light was indoors at a very low break rate, a single bang. Then it went outdoors on a damp night with a doubtful RF ground and made 4 ft streamers. At the UK Teslathon in Derby in May 2004 it was wound up as far as it would go: 400 bps, a second toroid, 18 µF of tank capacitance, about 8 J a bang and a little over 3 kW. That gave a ground strike just over 6 ft. A grounded pole through a light bulb blew the filament, and an arc inside the glass kept the bulb lit. At Derby 2005 he stopped caring about blowing it up and ran it flat out. After that came the DRSSTC on the card above, and the OLTC branch ended.
