What changed because of them
RAIKIRI is the second of his staffs; Staff of Power came first. A potted litz primary, the bus doubled to 900 V, a segmented topload, a kilojoule of storage, a tungsten breakout point, a 1 kW boost converter and an aluminium body, all carried in one hand. In a stationary test it reached 3.5 m of arc from 140 mm of winding, 25 times the coil, the highest ratio on the wall.
The bridge runs on Anders Mikkelsen's APWM control scheme, which makes the two drivers one family: Mikkelsen's half bridge first, then this, the first full-bridge APWM as far as either of them knows. The driver runs from a single 15 V supply that bootstraps the high-side drivers, sets a fixed dead time of about 100 ns, and takes feedback and overcurrent detection off one current transformer; the switches are Infineon SiC FETs with Kelvin source.
An electronics graduate of The Hague (2010), he works in power electronics professionally. The staff is near the end of its build, and he means to publish the rest of the build details soon; this page follows his.
