The simplest of his coils, on a page the Internet Archive first saw on 7 Jan 2002. A half bridge of two IRF150s drives the primary directly, drawing 3 A from the 230 V mains. The large secondary is wound on two polypropylene buckets with no topload and resonates at 120 kHz. It makes streamers and swords a little under 30 cm long. He notes that a 300 kHz secondary gave only 10 cm at the same input current. The schematic on the page, a 555 for the pulses and a discrete gate driver through a pulse transformer, is the one his general SSTC notes grew out of.
